12 WEEK PROGRAM

  • SESSION 1

    Session one begins with an overall assessment on the 3 main skill components of football. The athlete will be shown drills he or she can take home to work on in own time to improve those skill elements. The latter part of session will involve drilling those skill elements with coach.

  • SESSION 2

    Session two starts by revisiting the skills learnt in the first session. We move onto drills with active execution eg. execution from ground ball/execution in motion.

  • SESSION 3

    We begin to work on the individuals needs specific to their position on the field. Ruckman will work on ruck craft, defenders, mids and forwards drills that improve the craft required for their area.

  • SESSION 4

    Week 4 is based on plyometric and speed training. Speed is an essential part of AFL football and participants will learn excellent drills to improve their explosiveness.

  • SESSION 5

    Week 5 will be dedicated to goal kicking and working on a set routine. Athletes will kick from all angles and learn the bio mechanics for banana, drop punt and check-side kicks.

  • SESSION 6

    Week 6 introduces the gym and what weights are suited to the individuals age and development. We teach the athlete good gym practices and technique and also stretching routines.

  • SESSION 7

    Week 7 is combination week. We revisit weeks 1 through 3 and build on skill already learnt.

  • SESSION 8

    Week 8 is the second combination week. We revisit weeks 4 through 6 and build on skill already learnt.

  • SESSION 9

    Week 9 is athletes choice. We listen to the athlete (and/or parent) and work on what they wish to improve. We begin to build on the athletes profile and where both parties feel their best football will be played. Listening rather than being told is crucial to the athletes enthusiasm and development.

  • Session 10

    Week 10 is dedicated to learning the importance of rehab and what the elite should do to prepare for the ‘next game’ by visiting local establishment THE FOUNDRY. The Foundry is an elite training centre dedicated to rehab and preparing the body for performance. www.foundryathletic.com

  • SESSION 11

    The most intense session yet where you will be tested! We take all that we have learnt and apply in a mega session of skill work.
